Basileo bedroom with king-size bed and French window onto the balcony

A place to sleep well

Basileo is built around sleep. The bed is a 180×200 king with a Dorelan mattress and a 6 cm memory topper; the linen is changed for every arrival. Each room has its own air conditioning.

The spaces

The bedroom is 15 sq m: king-size bed, wardrobe, a desk with a monitor and a 43-inch smart TV. The living area is 19 sq m: a full kitchen with induction hob, dishwasher, microwave, kettle and capsule coffee machine; a table for four, a double sofa bed and a 55-inch smart TV. The private bathroom has a walk-in shower with a low tray, no grab bars. The suite also has a washing machine (no tumble dryer), an iron and a hair dryer.

That is 34 sq m in all, plus bathroom, hallway and a balcony over Via degli Arconti. The suite is on the first floor of a period building with no other residents: two flights of stairs, no lift.

Who it is for

A couple who would rather have a home in the centre than a room. A parent with one or two children: everything is on one level, and a cot is available on request. Anyone working in Reggio for a few days or a few weeks, alone or with a colleague.

The suite sleeps four: two in the king bed and two in the double sofa bed. There is one bathroom; two couples or two families are better off booking Basileo and Eponimo together.

Arrival and house rules

You let yourself in with a code, any time from 14:00; check-out is by 11:00. The minimum stay is 2 nights, 3 in some periods. No pets, no parties. Parking is on the street, in the paid blue-line bays.

The Duomo is 150 metres from the front door. Corso Garibaldi and the Lungomare Falcomatà are a short walk away; the National Archaeological Museum, home of the Riace Bronzes, is about 10 minutes on foot.

The name

The name comes from the basileus, one of the two archons – the magistrates of the Greek cities – after whom the street is named. The other, the eponymous archon, gives his name to the second suite.
